Big trends shaping jewelry in 2022

The modern trend cycle is faster than ever.

One of the best ways to stay on top of upcoming trends? Look at what designers are starting to showcase at Fashion Week. Now that the runway season has come to a close, we can take a closer look at what trends have started to surface.

Brands of all sizes in New York, Paris, London, and Milan are showcasing large, eye-catching statement accessories. Timeless classics have been reimagined into bold statements.

Insider Creations 2022 Fashion Week trends moodboard

While every season has its most sweeping jewelry trends, it typically takes a while for pieces to feel dated—especially now that designers take reference from many past decades all at once.

It is important to recognize the history behind jewelry trends when attempting to forecast new ones. There are many parallels between the Covid-19 pandemic and the 1918 Spanish flu. Now that we might have entered our own “roaring 20s”, styles reflecting a new sense of freedom are everywhere.

Consumers are looking for ways to reconnect socially, and statement jewelry pieces are the perfect spark. Fantasy and elegance are reemerging as key fashion design assets.

At Insider Creations, we stay on top of trends across the industry, from high fashion to unique collections appearing around the world. Our award-winning designers develop each collection based on our client’s vision, but each designer is also highly knowledgeable about trends current and past

This year has seen lots of excitement around ear cuffs, tying back to the statement earring trend noted below. Ear cuffs, though often not as big as those on Fashion Week runways, are a great way to integrate an asymmetrical look and play with different stones and pops of color.

Some clients are developing collections with strong connections to the oft-discussed Regencycore trend of the last 18 months. These are often developing statement pieces with lots of mixed media, pearls, chains and textures, including bold crystals, gemstones, statement earrings and necklaces.

Retrofuturism, another common trend, has been popular among some clients, looking at metals with interesting “organic” or “fluid” movement and integrating intriguing gemstones or surface textures.

Of course, many clients are fully in on the 90s/Y2K trend, with color pops in enamel, fun and playful motifs, and plenty of kitsch.

Looking for some inspiration for your next collection? We’ve compiled a moodboard (above) and an array of inspirational images (below) full of jewelry trends we expect to see based on what we saw from not only New York Fashion Week, but Paris Fashion Week, Milan Fashion Week, and London Fashion Week as well.
