Making a Jewelry Moodboard in 3 Easy Steps

So you’ve started on the journey to create your jewelry brand! After developing your overall brand concept and vision, the next step is going to be moodboarding for your first collection. Our designers are fantastic at creating original designs from almost any inspiration, but the stronger your moodboard, the better our designers can meet your expectations. Let’s go through the steps, all using Pinterest:

1.Start with a Jewelry Mood Board

Pinterest is an amazing visual search engine. Start by creating a board and pinning existing jewelry that looks similar to what you’re aiming for. Keep in mind that a good designer will never copy an existing design, but if you pull lots of similar pieces into one board, we’ll see a theme and it will help us to understand your overall vision. As you craft your jewelry board, you’ll find the Pinterest algorithm will display more and more suggested pins in the ‘more ideas’ section of your board. Once you have at least 30 pins, it’s ready to go.

2. Layer on an Aesthetic Mood Board

This is different from your ‘Jewelry Board’ - don’t include pictures of jewelry in this. We want you to evoke a feeling of time or place with this board. So if your vibe is beachy and modern, include pictures of crystal clear waters, palm trees, maybe clean modern sculptures. If your aesthetic is more antique, try searching for pictures of Victorian London, vintage paintings or artwork, and so on. This board will add a second layer to our understanding of your vision. You may even include simple color swatches in this board, especially if you plan to work with specific gemstones.

3. Finally, develop an ideal customer mood board

This is the mood board that shows who your customer is - it could be Instagram posts from your favorite influencers, street style photos - basically a collection of photos of who you envision will love and cherish your new collection.

The combination of these three boards - jewelry, aesthetic, customer - will give your designer the tools they need to craft a brilliant collection that aligns with your vision. Happy pinning!
