Why a Design-First Approach is Important

We’ve seen this time and time again from customers who come to us after a bad experience with another manufacturer: the design phase was rushed, and it results in endless sample rounds adding many months (and costs!) to your production timeline. This is why at Inside Creations we advocate a design-first approach for every collection.

Design is the foundation of your collection, and we take many factors into account during this phase, such as materials and budget. For example, if you’re designing a gold vermeil collection, weight isn’t as much of a factor as it would be if you are developing a solid gold collection, where even half a gram can blow out your budget. This, coupled with an understanding of how different metals, gemstones and techniques affect the final product, is one of the key differences between Insider Creations and traditional manufacturers.

Our design packages also include not only hand-drawn designs but CAD designs from experts who understand the mechanics and techniques that go into making jewelry, which is unusual in the jewelry industry. We believe it makes for better designs and, ultimately, a better investment on your part.

Another aspect to our design-first approach is our rapid prototyping process. Usually, if you approach a manufacturer with a design, it will take 8 - 10 weeks just to get your first sample. At Insider Creations, we’ve developed a unique iterative process that allows us to rapidly create prototypes of your designs so you can see how they’ll look and feel before you proceed to formal sampling.

If you’re embarking on manufacturing your jewelry collection with a new production house, make sure they’re taking a design-first approach so that your finished product isn’t just beautiful - it’s functional, delivered on time and on budget.
